Can you tailor shirt sleeves?
The sleeves of a dress shirt can be shortened an inch or two by an experienced tailor. The collar of your shirt can be easily replaced, although you may need to accept a white collar for contrast. It is unlikely the tailor will have fabric that perfectly matches your shirt.
How do I put the sleeves on my shirt?
- Use a seam ripper to take the cuffs off.
- Pin the cuff onto the sleeve matching the top of the cuff to the marked seam line.

How do you increase the size of your armhole?
Making the Sleeve Width wider is a sure-fire way to increase the size of the armhole and thus reduce tightness in the armpit. However, this can also make the sleeves baggier (which may not be desired). So, before using this solution, try to determine if the Sleeve Width is too tight in any other areas.
How do you adjust a loose top?
There are three common ways to fix loose armholes:
- First, add a dart from the bust apex of the dress by pinching the fold on the wrong side of the fabric, then sew the fold.
- Second, add a band or binding by easing an extra fabric into the armhole.
- Third, add decorative lingerie elastic and sew it around the armhole.
